Standard Compression Springs
Definition: Standard compression springs are those made using standard fractional sizes.
The stock compression springs you will find here are manufactured using the standard sizes taken from the standard drill size chart. These fractional sizes are in sixty-fourths, unless they are converted to a simpler fraction such as thirty-secondths, sixteenths, eighths, quarters, or half. The measurements equivalent to each fractional size are provided in the chart below.

Since there are billions of possibilities, and numerous combinations of your compression spring’s dimensions, having standard sizes is the best solution. Even then, our stock compression spring catalog has over 18,000 standard compression spring designs. So if you need a 1/4” OD by a 7/8” free length, you can definitely find it here!
Using Spring Finder (our search stock springs tool) you can easily navigate and find the spring you need in our standard compression spring catalog >. Spring Finder will find your spring within the measurements you provide.
The basic inputs are: outer diameter, free length, and spring rate. In the basic search you may enter one of those three attributes in either the English or Metric system of measurement.
For a more advanced search, you can add working loads, travel, or other physical dimensions. To do so, you must select “Search More Fields” and enter one or more of the following inputs: travel, load, wire diameter, total coils, inner diameter, and/or solid height. All of the above dimensions and specifications are entered in ranges. This will allow you to set your own tolerances based on your own knowledge of the product it will be used in.
Once you click “Search” you will be redirected to a standard compression spring results page. The results are provided on a table where you’ll see the unit price, our part number, and the spring dimensions.
There are a couple of dropdown menus that will allow you to organize the list of results based on a certain dimension or view more products within the same page. This means you can organize the list by free length, travel, wire diameter, spring rate, etc. The second dropdown will allow you to view 15 to 200 products per page.
